Commencement Vocalist Announced

Sessily G.

Sessily Gianakos, a 2021 graduate, will offer a melodious treat during Governors State University’s virtual 2021 Commencement ceremonies on May 22 and May 23.

Sessily earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a perfect 4.0 GPA and has a well-crafted plan to secure a graduate degree in physical therapy.

After receiving her associate degree, Sessily transferred to Governors State where she started study groups and helped tutor fellow students while attending classes and working as a bartender. Additionally, Sessily worked with three honor societies —Tau Sigma International, Psi Chi International, and Phi Theta Kappa.

Even before completing her bachelor’s degree, Sessily planned to continue her educational pursuits with a doctorate degree in physical therapy at Governors State. Ultimately, Sessily dreams of creating a “healing center” that provides for the needs of the body, mind, and spirit.

“This healing center will offer nutrition advice, physical/occupational therapy, and mental health services. This place will encourage the continued development of the fusion between Eastern and Western medicine, where the person is treated as a whole human,’’ she said.

Also passionate about singing, Sessily said she was relieved when she learned she would have the opportunity to perform the "Star Spangled Banner" national anthem for Governors State’s Commencement ceremonies.

“It’s kind of my own little tradition. I have sung at every one of my graduations thus far—preschool, kindergarten, middle school, high school, associate degree—and I am honored to continue sharing my gift.”
