CAS Advisory Board welcomes new co-chairs

Gia and Chris

The College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Board welcomes two new co-chairs: Gia Orr and Christopher Torres

The two will jointly head the board, which identifies opportunities for Arts and Sciences students and alumni to enrich their education, career, and cultural opportunities through internships, mentorships, social activities and other beneficial experiences. It also assists in the development and maintenance of external support and participates in the ongoing strategic planning process for the college.

“My value is to help bring additional opportunities that existing and future board members can offer to students and staff,” said Orr, Director of Community Relations  for the State of Illinois since 2014. “I feel really confident that the board members we have and are looking to bring on are looking forward to helping plan and train GSU students into good candidates.”

Orr has experience in helping to push agency public awareness, providing programmatic support to community partners and advocating for underrepresented areas. She is also Director of Legislative Affairs at the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission. She’s had over a decade of experience in education including seven years as an assistant principal and a principal.

Torres is the South/Southwest Regional Director for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. His background is in operations and management, serving as a servant leader who works with community partners, two regional  advisory boards, parishes and the greater community to serve those in need.

Congratulations to both!
