Dr. Cheryl Green Named 2023 Chicago United Business Leader
(University Park, Ill.) – Chicago United’s Business Leaders of Color has selected Governors State University (GSU) President Cheryl Green, Ph.D., for its 2023 cohort of accomplished executives and innovators who are prepared for corporate directorship.
One of 50 candidates selected, Dr. Green joins trailblazers from across industries that include finance, food service, medical, technology, and education.
Chicago United is a corporate membership organization, advocate, and thought leader committed to advancing multiracial leadership in corporate governance, executive level management, and in minority business partnerships. It seeks to transform the Chicago region into an inclusive business ecosystem.
The chosen leaders “share recurring themes of resilience, determination, and inspiration. An ever-growing body of data show that corporate boards comprised of talent from diverse racial backgrounds and unique mindsets govern better and create stronger outcomes,’’ according to the Chicago United website.
The first African American president of Governors State University, Dr. Green has led the university since 2020 bringing more than 30 years of experience in higher education. Before joining GSU, Green served as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin (UW) Oshkosh, as Interim Chancellor for the UW Whitewater, and as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Tennessee State University.
A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Green is committed to scholarship, sisterhood, and community service. Her service includes working with ten advisory or boards of directors, including the Association of Governing Boards Council of Presidents, South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium Executive Board, and Manchester University Board of Trustees.
Chicago United will recognize the 2023 cohort during an awards celebration on November 16, 2023.
