Hands of anonymous hackers holding credit card

By Sarah Shoaf, Staff Writer

Ahead of holiday season shopping, Governors State University’s (GovState) Dr. William Kresse, aka Professor Fraud, wants people to be wary of bank impersonation scams that are getting smarter.

“They are getting very sophisticated and can easily fool someone out of their money,” said Dr. Kresse, a certified fraud examiner, on a segment for WGN Radio. “I know about this personally because I got one of those calls last week.”

With reports across the country of calls pretending to be well-known large banks, Dr. Kresse shared how to identify the clues that point to a scam and tips on what to do when a scammer calls.
