This year, Governors State University's (GovState) Health Fair is going bigger by merging with the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce's (CSCC) Third Annual Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Conference.

We are very honored to be the host site for this year’s (CSCC) event,” said Michelle Sebasco, Program Director in the School of Extended Learning (SXL), who collaborated with leaders in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) to bring this event together.

On Friday, October 18, the morning will feature panels on the generations of health hosted by CSCC with the afternoon dedicated to GovState's Health Fair, where students and faculty will present on various topics like stroke awareness and mindfulness.

Opening the day's events, CSCC brings three panels focused on the theme “Generations of Health to Live Well!” Discussions will cover the Generations of Aging: Youth to Senior Citizens, Generations of Neurodiversity and Generations of Digital Equity and Literacy.

Guests can expect resources and conversations around aging in the workplace, neurodiversity inclusion, and barriers concerning technology for education.

“Our goal is to share resources that are available, see where the gaps are and ultimately try to collectively address the gaps,” said Terri Winfree, President of the CSCC. “From the chamber's perspective, if people's needs are met, then the businesses and organizations have healthy employees and the organization is healthy.”

After the panels, guests are invited to stay for GovState's Health Fair for breakout presentations and community resources, like Jewel-Osco, who will be on site administering a variety of vaccines, and Kidney Foundation, who will be offering kidney screenings.

Covering a variety of health topics, the breakout sessions will share insights into things like individual sensory patterns, virus facts, faith-based health education, yoga, and libraries as places for rejuvenation.

Together, the joint events will offer key information for living well long-term. Click here for more information on the event and to register.
