ABC7 Samantha Chatman speaks on responsible journalism at GovState
In a time of popular social media apps like TikTok, ABC7 anchor Samantha Chatman emphasized the importance of journalists' responsibility to “filter out the truth” during her visit to Governors State University (GovState), a first for the Southside native.
“Looking at the media landscape, as journalists, we have a huge responsibility…journalism degrees still matter,” said Chatman, who highlighted how impactful it is to have someone with a journalism background conduct an interview. “It hits different when a journalist is asking the questions.”
Encouraged by her mom to be a journalist, Chatman spoke candidly about her career from early rookie mistakes to the wins, big and small, of her career to date. She hosts a popular consumer segment now, “Sam on Your Side.”
Chatman said the segment feeds her passion to help people.
“I want to be someone who will inspire people to say, ‘Samantha had our backs. She cared.’”
