2023 Convocation Preview

come celebrate academic excellence as we kick off the school year at Governors State University's (GovState) annual Convocation.
Convocation will mark the start of the 2023-24 academic year at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Center for Performing Arts. Students, faculty and staff are cordially invited.
Speakers include President Cheryl Green, Student Senate President, Marquis Parks, and Board of Trustees Chair, Angela Sebastian. Recognition and awards will also be presented, including DEI Grants, Excellence and the Baysore awards,
DEI Grants, or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion grants, support efforts by GovState's faculty, staff, and student organizations that strive to help GovState become a “model for belonging, inclusivity, and equity in a diverse community.” The Excellence Award recognizes excellence in teaching, performance of primary duties, and creative activity, and the Baysore Award recognizes university employees that embody absolute integrity, total competence, generous dedication, and unfailing civility.
Immediately following the ceremony, there will be ice cream at the Welcome Back Celebration in the Hall of Governors.
