100% of Direct Admit Illinois Freshmen Eligible for Governors State Scholarships

University Park, ILFreshmen students who meet direct admission requirements for Governors State University (GSU) are guaranteed partif not alltheir tuition is paid thanks to the state’s AIM HIGH grant program, beginning fall 2020.

Designed to provide incentives for high achieving students to stay in Illinois, AIM HIGH guarantees scholarships ranging from 25 to 100 percent of tuition and fees for direct admit students, those who meet and exceed Governors State admission requirements for freshman, additional grants are also available for transfer students.

Aurélio Valente, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management said,  “As Illinois families evaluate the cost of education and its value, Governors State is awarding grants in a way that is both inclusive, and pervasive.’’

Since the program was launched in 2018 with a focus on equity, Governors State has awarded 114 AIM HIGH freshmen scholarships, nearly 70 percent to students who identify from underrepresented groups.

In addition, Valente said he university is using the dollars to attract students with a broad base of interests by defining merit to include talent with a focus on creative arts.

Eligible first-time freshman applicants with a GPA of 3.75 and higher who also meet all Governors State and AIM HIGH criteria will receive funding covering up to 50% of annual tuition with awards being renewable each year.

Qualified transfer students with a GPA of 3.75 and higher can earn up to $4,000 annually, while students with 3.25 GPA qualify for up to $2,000 annually.

All grants are based on the students’ unweighted high school GPA and are renewable for four years. Learn more about the generous scholarship program at the Nov. 9 Open House.
