Narrative Therapy and Couples Expert

Dr. Shawn Patrick is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for the Masters in Counseling Program in the Division of Psychology and Counseling at GSU. Also a licensed clinical professional counselor, she is an expert in couples and family counseling.

Much of Dr. Patrick’s current research is focused on multiculturalism, social justice, narrative therapy and couples counseling. These areas overlap, such as applying couples conflict reconciliation strategies to communities and fostering public dialogues addressing topics of race, gender and sexual orientation.

Dr. Patrick has authored press publications for Inside Higher Ed and Counseling Today, and was interviewed by Parenting Magazine on utilizing counseling for parents of children with colic or other excessive crying conditions. In addition, she directed a documentary and has been invited to make presentations related to experiences of oppression.
