Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The countdown is on! In just four days, voters across the nation will participate in an election that will help shape the direction of our country, states, and local communities.

From higher education funding and student financial aid to housing, healthcare, employment, and public safety, elected officials make decisions that affect our everyday lives. This year's election will also determine control of the U.S. House of Representatives and influence the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.

Why does this matter to the GovState community? Because public policy affects our students, faculty, staff, families, and community stakeholders. Understanding the issues, researching candidates, and knowing how government decisions impact our communities are important parts of civic engagement.

Make Your Election Day Plan - With Election Day approaching, now is a good time to:

  • Visit the Illinois State Board of Elections website: https://www.elections.il.gov
  • Check your voter registration status.
  • Review the candidates and issues on your ballot.
  • Find your designated polling location and voting hours.
  • Explore available early voting options.
  • Make a plan for when and how you will vote.

Civic Engagement Beyond Election Day

The Kaleidoscope Community Service Council at Governors State University promotes civic responsibility, student leadership, volunteerism, and community engagement. Through service initiatives, educational programming, and campus partnerships, Kaleidoscope encourages students to connect classroom learning with meaningful community involvement.

Civic engagement doesn't end on Election Day. Staying informed, participating in community discussions, volunteering, and understanding public policy are ways to remain connected to the democratic process throughout the year.

Four days remain until Election Day. Stay informed, know your options, and make your own voice heard!
