GSU Dance Festival to Be Held in April

University Park, IL - Governors State University students are welcoming spring and getting in the groove with a variety of dance disciplines including contemporary, musical theatre jazz, Afro-modern, and hip-hop. The GSU Dance Company’s presents its second annual spring Dance Festival on April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at GSU’s Center for Performing Arts.

Patrons will enjoy stunning choreography by Director Megan Lindsay and featured work from GSU student choreographers: Tarcia Pillows, Emily Subach, Emmanuel Willis, Ava Marciniak, and Ronique Pierre-Paul. A guest performance by Fatal Dance will also be featured.

The 2016 Dance Festival is produced by GSU’s Theatre and Performance Studies (T.A.P.S) Program, approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education as a Bachelor’s Degree in 2014. GSU’s T.A.P.S. bachelor’s degree is the only degree combining the two disciplines at a public state university in Illinois.

The festival is open to the public. Tickets are $18 for general admission and $13 for students with valid I.D. at the box office. Admission is free for children 12 and under.

The box office is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays until 6 p.m. It opens two hours prior to events. Performances at the Center for Performing Arts are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
